Introduction

"Sofer v'Mone" (the "App" or "we") is an open-source application developed to help Sofer Stam manage and track their work. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information.

Google Drive Data Access

The App requests access to your Google Drive to allow you to back up and sync your data across devices. Here is exactly how we handle your data:

Access

The App requests the drive.file permission from Google OAuth API. This permission allows the App to:

  • Create and manage a backup file named sofer_vmone_backup.json in your Drive
  • Read and update only files that the App created (not other files)
  • Sync changes across devices

The App cannot access other files in your Drive.

Use

We use this access only for:

  • Saving your project and history data (locally and on Drive)
  • Automatic sync between devices (Android, Windows, macOS)
  • Smart merge when working from multiple devices
  • Automatic backup to protect your data

Storage

The App does not store your data on external servers.

  • Data is stored locally on your device (SharedPreferences / Local Storage)
  • The backup file is stored only in your Google Drive (not on our servers)
  • All processing is done locally on your device – no data is sent to other servers
  • The file is stored in JSON format and is accessible only to you

Sharing

We do not share, sell, or transfer your user data (Google user data) to any third party, advertising tools, or other entities.

Your data belongs to you only. The App is open source – you can review the code and verify there is no unauthorized access.

What Data Do We Collect?

The App collects and stores the following data locally on your device and in your Google Drive only:

  • Projects: Project name, type (Torah/Tefillin/Mezuzah), price, expenses, goals, client email, target date
  • Work history: Date and time, work duration, pages/lines written, description
  • Settings: Notification preferences, day rollover time, work day settings
  • Google account info: Email address (for identification and display only)

Important: The App does not collect additional personal information, does not track location, and does not use analytics or advertising tools.

Google OAuth API Compliance

The App complies with Google's requirements for OAuth API Sensitive Scopes:

Limited Use Requirements

  • The App uses Google data only for the stated purpose: backup and sync of work data
  • Data is not transferred, sold, or shared with third parties
  • Data is not used for advertising or marketing
  • Data is not used to improve other products or services
  • Data is not transferred to humans (except at your explicit request for technical support)

Security

Connection to Google Drive is via Google's secure OAuth 2.0. Access tokens are stored locally on the device and encrypted. There are no intermediary servers – communication is direct between your device and Google Drive.

Your Rights

As a user, you have the following rights:

  • Access: View all your data at any time (in Summary and Projects screens)
  • Edit: Edit or delete any data (projects, work records)
  • Delete: Delete all data (Reset All Data button in Projects screen)
  • Disconnect: Disconnect your account from Google Drive at any time (Sign Out in Settings)
  • Export: Data is stored in open JSON format and can be exported from your Drive

Data Retention

Data is retained as long as you use the App. When you delete a project or record:

  • The item moves to Recycle Bin (soft delete) and is kept for 30 days
  • After 30 days, it is automatically removed on the next sync
  • You can permanently delete from the Recycle Bin at any time

When you disconnect from Google Drive or uninstall the App:

  • Local data is removed from the device
  • The backup file in Drive remains yours – you can delete it manually from Drive

Open Source and Transparency

"Sofer v'Mone" is open source. All code is available on GitHub:
